Caitlin Thomas, Vice President, Business Development, Fíonta
"I recommend to the firms I consult with to make WHC's Comparative Analysis a key input of their Go To Market strategy. This comprehensive analysis enables SI firms to quickly identify areas needing improvement and pinpoint where to concentrate their efforts"
Susan Tobes, Founder, Susan Tobes Consulting
The Comparative Analysis includes the following metrics for your firm and up to 10 other selected firms of your choosing, as well as the partner landscape as a whole.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Data has been sourced annually in June of each year from the Salesforce AppExchange and LinkedIn since 2019, and Watt’s List since 2023.
The full data set spans 5 years and includes over 400 firms. The specific firms included in any given metric will vary based on the number of years that firm was measured. Full year-over-year datasets are only available for firms that were in the Salesforce.org partner network in 2022, and also have listings on Watt’s List. Partial datasets are available for the remaining firms. The most recent annual assessment of data from the AppExchange (June 2023) includes the following firms. If your firm is not on this list, we can still create a Comparative Analysis of the other firms of your choosing.

Choose firms that you know you regularly compete against, partner with, or who otherwise represent comparable alternatives to your firm in the nonprofit sector. If you don’t know of 10 comparable firms, we will be happy to make recommendations based on the data.
This is similar to the Partner Landscape Report in that it draws from a similar data set to analyze the SI firms that serve the nonprofit sector. However, there are two key differences. 1) Since the Salesforce.org partner network no longer exists, this analysis includes any firm that has Navigator status for Nonprofit Product or Industry, as well as the firms that were part of the SFDO Partner Network in 2022, and those that are part of Watt's List. 2) Unlike the report, which was 150+ pages of general analysis, the new Comparative Analysis is specific to your firm and includes specific recommendations from Watt Hamlett as well as a one-one-one meeting for Watt to review them with you.
In short, this new offer takes the place of the report from previous years and offers greater value.
There are three primary ways the analysis adds value to the raw data:
Clear Point-In-Time Comparison: The analysis provides clear visuals of how your firm compares to others in your comparison cohort. It also identifies which percentile your firm is in relative to all firms in the data , as well as the minimum, maximum, median and average for all firms. This would be labor-intensive to compile and calculate on your own, but we have done all the leg work for you. And because the information is presented in slide format, it can be easily shared with your leadership and team.
Tracking Change: This is perhaps the greatest benefit of the analysis. It will not only help you understand current status but how things are changing around you year-over-year, and at what rate, and how you compare. Are you adding new employees and consultants at a faster or slower rate than other firms? What about certifications? And projects? The majority of the metrics include current state, plus one- and three-year numeric change and percentage change. There are also five-year trend charts for employees and consultants. This is only possible because of our longitudinal data collection.
Additional Insights: Beside current state and changes, the analysis provides novel insights that can only be derived because of the breadth of data in the data set. For example, we are able to calculate the ratio of certified consultants to employees, the ratio of certifications per consultant, and the ratio of specific certifications among consultants. We then stack rank your firm against your cohort, as well as indicate your percentile among all firms. The analysis also offers scatterplots, or quadrant graphs, where we plot firms on the interplay of two factors. For example, one such graph plots firms based on number of Nonprofit Cloud Consultant certifications on one axis, and percentage of consultants with Nonprofit Cloud Consultant certifications on the other axis to identify the relative degree to which firms are highly certified both numerically and percentage-wise. Again, this is only possible because of the breadth of the data and the work we have done to collect it annually for many years.
It is true that not all of the data is “hard” data. For example, employee numbers on LinkedIn are only a proxy for actual employment numbers. And the number of completed projects on the AppExchange might be based on small or partial project phases completed, or might only represent the successful projects a firm chooses to log, and not all projects. And the data on Watt’s List is all self-reported.
But the point of using this data is precisely because it is public data. It is the same data that your clients and even Salesforce itself look at when researching and evaluating consulting partners. Regardless of how valid all the data is, the very fact that it is public is what makes it important to understand, to know how you are showing up relative to the alternatives in the market.
As a result of the analysis, you will understand where there are relatively more or fewer partners when it comes to:
These may be areas where you already have an advantage you can tout, or where you want to focus on developing an advantage.
